The main reason for the purchase of the SM5 is because when I have the Rode Dead Cat fitted to my microphone the fur can be seen through the camera viewfinder. This unit offsets the microphone so it sits away from the lens and out of sight. Oh, and also it reduces any bumps when moving the camera around. Well worth the investment.
